JAOO Talk: Patrick Linskey makes local news; iPhone app in 45 minutes
By admin | May 8, 2009
On JAOO Sydneys first day, Patrick Linskey did his talk “How to build an iPhone application in 45 minutes” in a more-than-well-packed room. Not only popular with conference attendees, australian media MISAustralia was also present, filming and doing an interview:

The MIS article angle is that this talk “punctured a few myths” about the speed of application development. This great talk did nothing of the sort!
Patrick said the only way to build an app in 45 mind was to cheat. He demonstrated the process but like all demo code, it is a long way from meeting basic business requirements.
The app included a very brittle hacked up parser for the conference schedule which would easily break if the website source changed even slightly.
So while Patrick capably toured the app development process, any “myth” that software takes significant time to build remains fully intact as far as I’m concerned.
