Microsoft does GWT

By JaooDevil | October 1, 2008

I just went to Erik Meijer’s talk on Javascript as an Assembly Language. Turns out to be a GWT clone. With a new Program Counter. And possibility of compiling to either Javascript or Silverlight. The question now is: Why, and when does IE get a faster Javascript engine?

The fun things is, the abstract tryed to sell it as exactly NOT a GWT clone:

“As a result, we see an increasing number of high-level languages that are compiled to JavaScript. Examples include Java, OCaml, ObjectiveC, Scheme, Haskell, and many others.
In contrast to this trend, Volta compiles a low-level assembly language, .NET MSIL, to JavaScript.” [1]
