My plans for JAOO this year: networking, .NET and lots more

By Thomas Ardal | August 21, 2008

thomasardalWhen I was asked to blog about my plans for JAOO 2008, I quickly realized one thing: I don’t know anything about the tracks this year. Well that’s just typical JAOO. I know I need to be there and the program will unfold later. JAOO awards me both the educational aspect, as well as the possibility to network with former colleges.

Monday I will try to control my frustrations on not being the one inventing Facebook, and attend the Social Network Programming track. I’m happy to see the conference evolving to other than a Java conference. New great tracks emerge each year. Among these, there is a lot of candy for the .NET people Monday afternoon, which I will attend, if I can get my hands off the Wii.

I attended some sessions about Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) last year and really want to hear more about this subject. Tuesday offers a whole track about RIA, which sounds pretty great. Last year I attended some product introduction sessions about Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight. I’m looking forward to attend some extended tutorials about these subjects, as well as the architectural aspect, which were not deeply covered last year.

Wednesday is a bit of a problem. All the before-lunch tracks sound interesting. I will probably end up in the Edutainment track, which has been one of my personal interests for a couple of years. The “Real men don’t do JavaScript” gets me interested just from the title. If this doesn’t turns out how I expect it to, I will switch to the Developer track later that afternoon.

Well, the program is really just one side of many about the JAOO conference. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of old colleges and hopefully meeting some new people and do a bit of networking.
